Another absolutely unmissable experience which is never absent from African travel dreams and for this very reason for anyone thinking of a journey in the heart of still wild Black Africa, is the red earth track.Moravia, in one of his reports from Africa, wrote thus of the track:
… The track is often compulsive: on both sides forest, literally, to your back, two tree walls rise to incredible heights, the sky reduced to a zigzag of uncertain light. The track leads nowhere at all. In actual fact it is the only communication route between the Atlantic and the region of the great lakes: a sabre slash cut through the body of the continent.
